The old-school way of cutting cage wire. Big wire cutters. Brace yourself for some major bilsters! There are a LOT of wires to cut, even if you are only making a single cage.
I initially tried wire cutters and between them and the J-clip pliers I decided I was just not having any fun. I bought the Makita angle grinder (about $50 USD) for use on this and several other DIY projects around the house. There are cheaper angle grinders at the hardware store - you don't need a really nice one.
